Loose Change Adds Up to £700

13 July 2021

The donation station, situated outside HMV in Eastgate Centre, which was only installed by Highland Hospice last September, has already raised £700.  This is due to the generosity of Eastgate shoppers who have been dropping in their loose change and a bit extra, and is despite a four-month lockdown (apart from essential retail).

Shoppers visiting Eastgate now also have the option to tap their support for Highland Hospice, thanks to a new contactless payment reader which has been added to the donation station. Those wishing to donate can choose to give either £5 or £10 to the charity. Traditional cash donations can also be made.

Jackie Cuddy, Centre Manager, said: “Our shoppers are well-known for supporting our chosen charities, so I’m sure the contactless donation station will be a great success and will help to raise vital funds for an extremely worthy cause.”

Highland Hospice’s café, In the City, which is located within Eastgate Centre, is currently being refurbished and should reopen again in August. Their City Centre charity shop which moved to a new prime flagship location in Falcon Square in May of this year has been a great addition to Eastgate’s retail offering.”

“We are also looking forward to working with Highland Hospice again for the upcoming festive season. The charity will be managing Santa’s Grotto and will benefit from all the income raised. The themed grotto is fitted out each year by Eastgate.”

Regardless of where they live in the Highlands, the donations made at Eastgate helps Highland Hospice to provide compassionate care and ensures support is available for people living with life-limiting illness and age-related frailty.

With the support of Eastgate’s shoppers, the charity can develop projects such as Helping Hands, Sunflower Home Care and the End of Life Care Together partnership. The donations also help to extend the reach of its services, which makes a meaningful difference for people who are at, and approaching, the end of life.

Karen Duff, Corporate Fundraiser at Highland Hospice, stated: “We are delighted that Eastgate hosts one of our contactless donation stations, making it so quick and easy for shoppers to support the Hospice. With people carrying much less cash in current times, these card donations are a valuable new income stream for us.”
