Work started this week to reconfigure two existing large units to provide four units fronting Falcon Square suitable for restaurant/bar operators.

In addition one new unit of c500 square feet will front onto Falcon Square mall entrance.

Burger King UK are the first operator to sign up for the development and Alasdair Murdoch, CEO Burger King UK, commented on the development: “We are excited to expand the BURGER KING®     brand in Inverness, and look  forward to welcoming guests to experience the great-tasting, high-quality food that has delighted  BURGER KING®       customers for 60 years”

Locally based building & Construction company Compass are the appointed contractors and they envisage handing the units over to operators for them to fit out in late May.  Thom Macleod, Managing Director of Compass Building and Construction Services stated” We are delighted to have been appointed as Principal Contractor for this latest phase of development work at Eastgate Centre.  Having been involved extensively in the planning of the project it is pleasing to now be making preparations for the works to get formally underway on site.  Our experienced team of Managers look forward to working closely with the Centre Management team in the coming weeks, to deliver the works expeditiously, whilst minimising inconvenience to the existing operators within, and visitors to, the Eastgate Shopping Centre”.

The newly formed units will take in the former Monsoon and Mamas and Papas unit just inside Falcon Entrance.  It will be business as usual at the Highland’s busy Shopping Centre with customers and retailers needs being at the forefront.

Negotiations are on-going with operators for the other units and these will be announced in due course as negotiations continue to progress.

“We are delighted to see the works progressing after several enforced delays over the years” said Jackie Cuddy, Centre Manager  “The market may have changed since we first started out on this journey but we are still optimistic that we can provide a great addition to the night time economy of Inverness with this development. Inverness is still very much on the list of major retailers and leisure operators as can be seen from the lettings  in 2018 to the likes of Hotel Chocolat, Joules, RBS and the relocation of Fat Face, all of whom reported strong trade over the Christmas period and January.  The Shopping Centre’s footfall remained strong throughout this period  with over 26,000 people coming through the Shopping Centre on Boxing Day and December as a whole seeing the same level of shoppers as the previous year.”
